We got in on Wednesday afternoon --- and Sam did amazing on the airplanes! That was a relief because I had been really nervous about that portion of the trip. I just fed him a bottle on take-off and he slept afterwards for the remainder of the flight (on both airplanes).
When we landed, he met Uncle Jeff for the first time. I've never seen any of my brothers around little babies before, so I wasn't really sure how he would take to Sam ---- but Jeff was a pro!! He was holding him like it was no big thing and Sam loved him. Jeff was a good bouncer.
Thursday was our day to hang out with just Uncle Jeff, Pamma, and Papa. Sam went swimming for the first time in their pool and did awesome. He did not show a whole lot of emotion --- he didn't cry, but he wasn't super enthusiastic either. My parents had gotten him a little raft to float in, and he did a few kicks in that. My dad held him up the whole time because he was still a little bit too small for the seat. The pictures are dark because we tried to keep him in the shade the entire time, and the iPhone camera didn't adjust to that. :)
Friday we went to KC to introduce Sam to my mom's side of the family --- great grandparents, great uncles, great aunts, and second cousins. We all met up at my grandpa's place to have a nice lunch and pass the little man around. My Aunt Diane even flew in for a surprise visit!! He is not the first great-grandchild, but he was still a big hit. We walked the Plaza for a little while after that gathering before heading to our friends' house for dinner (long time family friends). Their three boys are like my second set of brothers, so it seemed only right that they would meet Sam on our "family" trip, too.

My parents tried to keep the sun off of Sam's face, so they pulled him backwards for
most of our walk through the Plaza.

Saturday we drove to my dad's side of the family in Western Kansas. We stayed for lunch so he could meet more "greats." He is the third great-grandchild on that side of the family.

Sunday we took it easy before heading to the airport.
It was sad to leave, but we'll be back again in a few short weeks.
Sam did not have the same success on the airplane rides home......lots of crying and people around us not being too understanding. I told Zach that if God gave me a choice between going through childbirth again or re-living that travel day ---- take me to the hospital because that travel day was beyond stressful and exhausting. If that was the only tough part of the trip, I'd say he did pretty awesome. Good job, Sam! :)
