November Update:
Zach and his dad are continuing to work on the basement in hopes to have it done by Sam's birthday party in March. Making progress every weekend…they are so nice to drive over from St. Louis.
We had a fence installed in the backyard, which has been great for Sam….not so helpful with Mia. Little rascal walks right through the bars.
Sam still LOVES Parents' Day Out. When I tell him he has school the next morning, he really can hardly contain his excitement as he gets into bed….enough so that I've started waiting until the morning of to make sure he sleeps okay.
He has had quite the round of sickness this winter --- the nasty stuff where he was throwing up 7-8 times in a night and just miserable during the day. Having a sick kid is rough….and then Zach and I both got it….and then both of the grandpas got it….
We had Sam baptized at Village Presbyterian Church on November 17th. This is where Zach and I were married (along with a number of other family members), so it felt like the right place to have it done. We are still looking at churches closer to home to find one that will fit us. The baptism had quite a showing of family, which was so great, but also strangely new to us. Since having Sam, we haven't been close enough for very many people to come to anything….so this was a nice welcome into our new "closer" life. He did really well as the water was put on his head, and loved the vanilla shake he got at Winstead's afterwards (I know, quite the baptism reception…but I love that place).
Thanksgiving was here at our house with Zach's parents and sister, and my parents. We had a nice mid-day dinner around my new dining room table, and then my parents went home that evening.
A few new sayings and experiences:
* We usually give him a choice of two pajamas to wear and let him pick which ones he wants. Lately he has been getting a very puzzled look on his face, looking at us, and then at the pajamas saying "hmmm, that's a tough one."
* He requests diaper changes now because he doesn't like having a wet diaper. This prompted the purchase of a potty seat, which we will be getting into more intensely in the near future (hopefully). He has shown genuine interest and has tried it out a few times.
* In addition to interest in the potty seat is also interest in the toilet paper roll. We made it this long without much notice of how fast it spins and how much of a fun mess it makes…..thought we were going to be in the clear….no such luck. We have piles of unused toilet paper all over the place.
* On our way up to diaper changes, he tells whatever toy he was playing with prior to come with him "come on digger, come on…" I always have a kid in one hand and a large truck or train in the other if I want a pleasant diaper change experience.
* He also says "come on Mia, come on…" to our dog, but with her, he bends his knees a little and claps his hands.
* He tells me quietly and respectfully when he wants to leave a playgroup.
* He is becoming more and more opinionated about how he wants things to go, and will get pretty angry if things don't go as he had planned (ex: he gets mad if you don't play with something the way he wants you to).
* Still loves digging in the rice bucket, and playing with all of his trucks. Gets very disappointed when it is too cold to go on walk to go see them all working around our neighborhood.
* Loves singing. Learning the words to the songs is very important to him, so we listen to a few specific songs on repeat. All. Day. Long.
* Loves letters, counting, colors (still working on the difference between red and orange), and shapes.
It makes me wonder what happens to kids by the time they get into school that makes them not want to learn anything new anymore. This kid wants to know everything about everything…reminds me that the world is a pretty interesting place!
