This post is extremely delayed.....but for good reason. Sam and I have been in Kansas with my parents while Zach is off doing some training. The computer with all of the 12 month photos and beyond are here on my desktop.....and who wants to read a blog post without pictures? Boring. I wrote this update right after his 12 month milestone, and it is already interesting to read because things have changed so much even since this "update" ..... but he is going on 14 months...so I'm here to catch up! :)
12 MONTH SAM!
Sam's One-Year Stats:
Height: 30.5 inches (71%)
Weight: 22 pounds 1 ounce (37%)
What a trooper.....5 shots and a blood draw at his 12 month appointment. And this was after our emergency trip to the doctor on March 7th for a 102 temperature, throwing up, and double ear infection. Needless to say, Sam was not 100% for his birthday...but he put on a good show.
Still taking 4 bottles of formula a day, but won't always take the full 8 ounces offered. Doctor said to start a transition to whole milk one ounce at a time and also toss the bottles to bring in the sippy cups. We smiled and said okay, but I told Zach as we left the office, there is NO WAY that can happen yet. He agreed...we can't even get this kid to volunteer to hold his own bottle, so to switch out everything is a pretty big dream. It'll happen eventually. I am fairly certain that he won't be drinking out of bottles in elementary school, so I have no worries. We have a lot of new things happening in our life right now, so we plan to keep him in his comfort zone for just awhile longer. He has become very particular about what is served to him, and would gladly try to survive on Gerber Puffs and Rice Mum Mums, but I am too OCD about making him eat balanced meals to allow that. He won't take the baby food anymore, but if we give him chunks of normal food, they take an instant trip to the kitchen floor. We're in limbo.....but the foods that are on occasion easy to feed him (which I'll declare his favorites) are peas, sweet potatoes, broccoli, wheat bread, YoBaby yogurt, and shredded cheese. Not a fruit guy, unless you let him eat directly off of a full banana and are willing to deal with the choking afterwards. A few days after his birthday we tried quesadillas.....a big hit.
Clothing:
I keep trying to squish him into 12-18 month onesies, but truth be told, 18+ months is where we should be. His 9 month pants fit his waist but are capris. I have no clue what shoe size he is in these days because we stopped putting shoes on him. Yep...we are those parents in North Dakota that don't put shoes on their kid, but his snow suit has footsies on it....better than having shoes on that are tossed about the backseat by the time we reach our destination. Still sleeping in a onesie and a sleep sack...but I think we are nearing the end of that stage.
Communication:
He is very interesting when it comes to verbalization. He will get a word down pat and say it constantly for a few days and then it kind of fades off. He will focus on the new word of the week and not even attempt to say previous words. A few favorites are "Mmm-ah" (Mia) / "Hi" / "Ba Be" (baby). He still says "ball" consistently and locates them in his toy chest, can make a little "ruff ruff" sound if you ask him what a doggy says, does a little staccato high pitched sound for a kitty cat, and LOVES to warn people when things are hot. He makes the "H" sounds with a big open mouth and holds his hand out in front of him sideways. He will do it with the stove, oven, and even the bottle warmer and babyfood maker when the steam is coming up. He has also caught on that night lights and my Scentsy warmers are hot. The best one to date was when we went to the Sakura, a hibachi grill here in town. He very much enjoyed the show that the chef put on, but the minute the grill went up in the big flame (we moved his highchair away from the table a few feet) his eyes were GIGANTIC, his mouth was making the "H" sound and look as big as he could go and he had double hands up in front of him. We had witnessed the fireball of all things hot.
New Happenings:
He started dancing a little at 10-11 months, but he has quite a groove now! We're pretty impressed by the beat he can keep, and recently started doing this leg tap with his right foot. If he is standing, he will stomp it, and if he is in the middle of crawling and hears a tune he finds jazzy enough he will stop in his crawling position and pound his right leg on the ground. Loves dancing to the "Old McDonald" tune on his Little People Barn he got for his birthday.
He throws the ball for Mia, reaches when he wants up, waves "bye bye," notices when people leave the house and bangs the back door, still loves to be chased when crawling, loves to turn light switches on and off and start the washer/dryer/dishwasher. Also enjoys watching people go to the basement through the banister, and the occasional Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episode. I don't turn on the tv for him unless he is having a massive breakdown. Another constant calmer is his projector.....LOVES turning it on by himself.
No desire to walk just yet.
He'll do a few steps while we hold his hands, but then he sits down.
Whatever.

His birthday party was a blast, but more on that to come.....
