On June 9th, our little guy turned 3 months old.
Whoa.
| 3 Months |
He is "talking" a lot more, which is fun to listen to. Here are a few more pictures from our photo shoot when he was looking around and cooing at what he saw. Doesn't it look like he is having a conversation with someone?
Weight/Height:
* I weighed him with me and we’re guessing he is somewhere between 13 and 14 pounds. Taking him in and out of the car in his carrier sure isn’t as easy as it used to be, but I like to think that it is just getting my arms back in shape. He is about 24 inches (we think). What Sam is Wearing:
* He graduated from newborn diapers to size 1! I was sad for a brief moment, but I was so glad that he’s healthy and growing that I got over it. He is in a strange grey area as far as clothing goes. The 0-3 month things are great around the waist and 3 months are usually too big....but they are all too short! He is long and lean --- a mystery trait that matches neither of his parents.

Nighttime and Nap Time:
* We love this kid. He pretty consistently sleeps 9-10 hours every night, which has changed our world completely. There have been a few very random nights of him waking up at 4 a.m., but if I put the pacifier in he falls right back to sleep. We can’t figure out if we should still be swaddling his arms --- he falls asleep quickly with them in, but if he wakes up later he squirms to get them out (and is usually successful).
* I stopped getting up in the middle of the night to pump because I was getting sick from exhaustion….so none of us are getting up at unreasonable hours anymore. It is amazing.
* During the day, he takes a short morning nap around 10:30 and usually is tired again by around 1:00 in the afternoon. That nap is unpredictable in length --- it has been as long as 3 hours and as short as 30 minutes.
| At Menards picking out plants and patio accessories. He is clearly loving it. |
At the beginning of his 3rd month, he was taking 5 ounces of breastmilk every 3 hours during the day and a 4 ounce formula bottle before bed, for a total of 24-29 ounces per day. We’ve increased each bottle to 6 ounces (breastmilk and formula) for a total of 30 ounces. He is like clockwork during the day though --- if he is in a deep sleep during a nap, I can pretty much count on him waking up if it has been three hours since he last ate. He loves food like his momma!
We tried the nursing thing again a few times, just to see how it would go. I won't go into detail, but basically, there is no way we will be relying on that method as his source of food. He takes a bottle like a champ and we love the interactions we get to have with him when we feed him that way. Why mess with success?

*Sam LOVES looking in the mirror. He was already a fan of his changing table, but standing him up after to get a glimpse of himself in the mirror is like the icing on his cake. He will talk and talk and talk to that baby in the mirror like they are best friends.
*New equipment! We got him the Baby Einstein jumper. He moves his legs so much and loves to stand up on our laps, so we thought it would be good for him. He wasn’t too sure about it the first time we put him in it --- his feet don’t touch the ground, so he’s tip toeing on a pillow for now --- but there is a rattle that spins that he has gotten pretty good with. No independent bouncing quite yet, but he likes it when we make him go up and down.
* He is SO close to rolling over. Zach had him on the changing table and he started pushing up on his left leg, arching his back, and leaning towards his right shoulder. We put him on the ground and he did the same thing….he just needs one strong push on that leg and he’ll definitely be flipping onto his stomach. We’ll see what happens in month four!
*He thinks Mia is pretty funny.
* The facial expressions that we get now totally crack us up. I'd love to hear the thoughts and opinions that go along with his raised eyebrows, pouty lips, side smiles, and wide eyes.
He is such a good baby, and we feel so lucky that he has been healthy and an overall happy little guy. We are excited to see what is coming in month four! For now though, we can't get enough of the conversations filled with cooing and oooohs and ahhhs.....the instant recognition of who we are.....the little side smiles he does when he thinks we're being funny. We love us some baby Sam!
Here are a lot of bouncer photos. Enjoy!
